Citizens Advice response to Public Accounts Committee [ 180 kb]
In November 2016, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) launched an inquiry into the effectiveness of benefit sanctions - how the DWP administers them and whether they offer value for money.
Citizens Advice supported our clients with over 6,000 issues related to benefit sanctions last year. Our submission is based on their experiences, as well as surveys of our staff and volunteers and national and international evidence. It sets out the various challenges we see with current sanctions policy and our recommendations for reform.
