Targeted content (revealables)

This advice applies to England. See advice for See advice for Northern Ireland, See advice for Scotland, See advice for Wales

Targeted content appears on the advice collection as a title in a box. When a user clicks on the box, it expands and they can see the rest of the content in it.

Targeted content is a type of entry. An entry is a piece of content that can be reused in different places.

Adding targeted content

To add targeted content, first make sure your cursor is in the right place in the advice collection or entry you want to add it to. Click ‘Embed’ in the toolbar, then click ‘Entry’ on the drop down.

Image of the 'Body' field. The 'Embed' button has been clicked, and a drop down menu shows 'Entry', 'Inline entry' and 'Asset'.

This will open the ‘Add existing entry’ box. You can now either:

  • create new targeted content

  • find and add targeted content that already exists in Contentful

Creating new targeted content

Click ‘Create new entry’ in the top right of the 'Add existing entry' box. Scroll down the drop down list.

You need to choose either 'Targeted content' or 'Targeted content - adviser'.

Choose 'Targeted content' if either:

  • clients should be able to see the targeted content

  • the targeted content is for advisers only but it's on an advice collection that only advisers can see

Choose 'Targeted content - adviser' if the targeted content is for advisers only and it's on an advice collection that is visible to the public. 'Targeted content - adviser' is a different colour and it has the word 'Adviser' at the top.

Finding and adding existing targeted content

To find existing targeted content, click the blue box next to where it says 'Content type' and select 'Targeted content' or 'Targeted content - adviser'. Now search for the name of the targeted content by typing in the search bar.

The targeted content should appear in the list beneath the search bar. Click on it to add it.

The targeted content will appear as a box in the advice collection or entry you're working on.

Editing existing targeted content

You can move targeted content by either:

  • cutting and pasting it

  • clicking and dragging it

If you need to edit targeted content, click on the 3 dots in the top right, then click 'Edit' in the drop down menu. Remember that editing the targeted content will change it everywhere it appears on the site.

The content of targeted content

You can add content or make changes in the targeted content's fields.

Title

This is the only part of the targeted content users can see when it's closed. People can also search for the targeted content by title in Contentful.

Audience

Choose which countries can see the targeted content by ticking the boxes.

The audience settings for the targeted content don't have to match the advice collection or entry you're adding it to. For example, you can include England-only targeted content on an advice collection that is visible in both England and Wales. It will only appear for users in England.

Body

This is where you add and edit the contents of the targeted content. You can do the same things in the body as you can in an advice collection.

Don't start the body with a heading - the targeted content's title acts as the overall heading.

Version information

This is where you explain what changes you're publishing. If you're changing existing content, delete anything that's already in the field first.

Try to write the version information so it will make sense to someone who looks at it later without knowing the context. For example:

  • say if it's new targeted content, or briefly explain what changes you've made

  • if the work is part of a project, include the project name

  • if the change is a maintenance update, include a link to the maintenance Trello ticket

Publishing targeted content

To publish the targeted content, click the 'Publish' button on the right of the screen.

If it's new targeted content, you'll also need to publish the changes to the advice collection or entry it will appear on.

At the moment, you must tell the Content Platform team every time you make a change to the content in Contentful. This lets them make the same change in EPiServer. Tell the Content Platform team about changes using the request form.
