Creating new reusable content

This advice applies to England. See advice for See advice for Northern Ireland, See advice for Scotland, See advice for Wales

If you create new reusable content, you should record it in the reusable content and content patterns library. This means we have a record of all the reusable entries so other content designers can use them, and we can avoid duplicates.

Reusable content naming convention

This is how you should name new reusable content entries:

[title of content] - reusable - DON’T EDIT

Creating new reusable sections for the recipient’s details

To generate the greeting at the start of the letter, every reusable recipient’s contact details section (such as ‘Trader’s details’ or ‘Energy supplier’s details’) also includes these 2 questions:

  • ‘Is there a specific person you want to write to?’

  • ‘If yes, what’s their name?’

If you create a new reusable recipient’s details section, you should also include these 2 reusable questions.

Read more about greetings in the letter format editing guide.

Content patterns

If the reusable content isn’t right for your letter, use content patterns to create new sections and questions.

Check content patterns in the reusable content and content patterns library.

You can find out how to write placeholder text, hint text and error messages in the form editing guide.
