Checking and restoring previous versions

This advice applies to England. See advice for See advice for Northern Ireland, See advice for Scotland, See advice for Wales

You can look at previous published versions of the advice collection or entry you're editing. Find the 'Versions' section by scrolling down the bar on the right of the page.

Image of the 'Versions' section in Contentful. There is a list of versions with dates and the status 'Current' or 'Published'. One version has been selected - the circle next to it is highlighted. Under the list of versions is a button that says 'Compare with current version'.

You can find out who published a version by hovering your cursor over it. To see an old version, click the circle next to it then click 'Compare with current version' at the end of the list.

You will see a table comparing the selected version and the current version of the advice collection or entry. Each row of the table is a different field - for example 'Title' or 'Body'.

Image of the version comparison table. The heading of the left hand column says 'Nov 15, 2021'. There is also an option to 'Select all fields from this version'. The heading of the right hand column says 'Current version'. There is also an option to 'Show only differences'. Under the heading, the first row of the table is 'Title - English (United Kingdom)'.

The greyed out rows are the fields that are the same on the selected and current versions. You can click 'Show only differences' to only see the rows that have changed.

To restore the previous version of a field, click on it to highlight it then click 'Apply changes' in the top right. You can click 'Select all fields from this version' then 'Apply changes' if you want to restore the previous version of the whole advice collection or entry.
