Working with a health condition or disability
6.8 million working age people are disabled or have a health condition that can make work challenging. This especially affects older people. As people work later in life, more of them will need to balance the demands of work and managing a health condition.
This research [ 230 kb] explores the health and disability employment gap. It finds that people who are disabled or have a health condition can face a range of barriers to work. They are much less likely to be employed and are twice as likely to fall out of work. In order to help more people get into employment, support from employers and the benefit system needs to improve.
