A Water Strategy for Wales: response to the Welsh Government consultation

Citizens Advice Cymru has responded to the Welsh Government’s consultation on water strategy. We made a number of key points.

Water is an essential and affordability is vital for consumers;
Water efficiency measures and advice need to be appropriately targeted to ensure that they meet consumer needs effectively;
Water efficiency options should be fully explored before the Welsh government considers introducing universal metering;
The Welsh Government’s proposed water poverty review should encompass water debt, social tariffs and consumers who get their water from third parties such as local authorities;
Water and sewerage companies should work closely with, and provide funding for, advice services.

Mae Cyngor ar Bopeth Cymru wedi ymateb i ymgynghoriad Llywodraeth Cymru ar strategaeth ddŵr. Fe wnaethom nifer o bwyntiau allweddol.

Mae dŵr yn hanfodol ac mae’n hollbwysig bod defnyddwyr yn gallu ei fforddio;
Mae’n rhaid targedu mesurau a chyngor ar arbed dŵr yn briodol i sicrhau eu bod yn diwallu anghenion defnyddwyr yn effeithiol;
Dylid pwyso a mesur opsiynau arbed dŵr yn llawn cyn bod Llywodraeth Cymru’n ystyried cyflwyno mesuryddion i bawb;
Dylai adolygiad arfaethedig Llywodraeth Cymru ar dlodi dŵr gynnwys dyledion dŵr, tariffau cymdeithasol a defnyddwyr sy’n cael eu dŵr gan drydydd parti fel awdurdod lleol;
Dylai cwmnïau dŵr a charthffosiaeth gydweithio’n agos â gwasanaethau cynghori a darparu cyllid iddynt.
