Citizens Advice responds to new Ofgem data on standard variable tariffs

31 Awst 2017

Citizens Advice has responded to new information published by Ofgem today showing the percentage of customers on standard variable tariffs with the ten largest energy suppliers.

Gillian Guy, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, said:

Today's figures show that millions remain stuck on the standard variable tariff - paying much more than other customers - so it's good to see Ofgem aiming to bring the cap in January to help people with their expensive winter bills.

“Citizens Advice has always maintained that the cap should be introduced at the earliest opportunity so that struggling households have their bills cut sooner rather than later and we encourage suppliers to do all that they can to make this possible.

“But it's important to remember that many households won't be covered by the cap - so continued pressure on suppliers is essential to ensure they make every effort to move their customers off more expensive SVTs.”
