Frozen Out - Extra costs faced by vulnerable consumers in the energy market
Many consumers in Great Britain are paying far too much for their energy with certain vulnerable groups such as low income, elderly and disabled households particularly likely to suffer extra costs.
We know from the UK Government’s fuel poverty statistics and our own advice service that for some consumers these excessive costs mean a struggle to pay the bills and subsequently the heating is turned off even when there are health risks of doing so.
This report looks at the current gap between costs faced by consumers and current investment in helping vulnerable households reduce their bills. We conclude with some recommendations for how this gap could be closed.
