Citizen Advice East Devon (CAED) is a community-based charity that is part of the national Citizens Advice network. Our aim is to be the independent advice service of choice for the people of East Devon. We offer exceptional training and support and use our knowledge and experience to give people who are experiencing debt a way forward.

You will work in a small team specialising in debt, so some experience in debt and advice would be very helpful. At the same time we are working to put together an educational package for local schools, colleges and community groups to try and help people avoid getting into debt. We work in line with national quality-assured standards, and we enable people to move forward in times of challenge by giving them the knowledge and confidence to find a way forward. Debt is a very real issue in East Devon and we are seeing people with more complex and long term issues. East Devon has a higher than national average number of children in receipt of free school meals. Due to proportion of rural homes in the region and lack of public transport, it is often difficult for families to access the usual support networks. Local foodbanks have noted increased food insecurity among those families with children. 22% of the population were in relative poverty in 2021 and 9% with serious income derivation. In work poverty is above the national average.

Every local Citizens Advice is a registered charity. Different application procedures are adopted by individual local Citizens Advice. Contact the relevant one as outlined in the information about this role. You should not send an application form to national Citizens Advice.

All local Citizens Advice produce their own annual report, but you can find out more about the Citizens Advice network or download the latest national Citizens Advice annual report.
